How to Read a Tech Pack Before You Send It to a Factory

A factory can only quote what it can clearly understand. Before you send a tech pack, read it once as if you have never seen the product before.

Start with the build: confirm the flat sketch, construction callouts, seam types, stitch details, and finish direction all describe the same garment. If the drawing shows one thing and the notes describe another, the factory has to guess. Guessing becomes revisions, delays, or cost.

Then audit the measurement section. Check that every point of measure has a clear name, a finished measurement, and a tolerance. Make sure the size chart matches the grade rules and that the sample size is obvious.

Finally, review materials and approvals. List fabric composition, weight, color standard, trims, labels, artwork files, packaging, and the exact sample that is approved.

Before production, ask: Could a new technician build this from the document alone? If not, tighten the pack before requesting a quote. Clear information protects your timeline and margin.
